A Look Back – Rich DeVos’ Meet and Greet for His Final Book, a Memoir Entitled “Simply Rich”

Nine years ago, Rich was able to do one of his favorite things – connecting with people in his beloved hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The event on May 21, 2014 was a meet-and-greet at a local bookstore for his final book, a memoir entitled “Simply Rich: Life and Lessons from the Cofounder of Amway.” Rich was accompanied by his daughter, Cheri DeVos Ehmann, and his grandson, Rick DeVos. Rich was a lifelong motivator and enjoyed spending time talking with others to discuss many topics including leadership, business, faith, family and philanthropy.

Approximately 200 people waited in line, some for more than an hour, for the chance to shake Rich’s hand and talk. Instead of signing books, Rich spent time laughing, sharing stories and enjoying the company from relatives, friends and community members. Those in attendance were given bookplates with Rich’s autograph.

His daughter, Cheri, couldn’t help but smile and laugh as she sat by her Dad’s side and watched him interact with the crowd.

“My dad’s kind of humorous I have to say,” Cheri told the Grand Rapids Press at the time. “He’s always got one-liners, and is always so interested and curious about people, which is why the line gets so long because he has to ask them all sorts of questions all the time…It’s fun to watch him enjoy it so much.”
